The purpose of the Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Education is to prepare the student for a professional career in teaching instrumental music in a group setting. Students are trained to teach individual instruments, as well as instrumental ensembles, which results in public school certification at the K-12 levels. ÀÏ˾»ú´«Ã½'s Music Education students gain practical teaching experience in the field as early as the first year. Many students also work as private lesson teachers, marching band techs, or otherwise volunteer in classrooms during their studies.

Our Instrumental Music Education alumni have found success in teaching positions and professorships around the globe. ÀÏ˾»ú´«Ã½ alumni have been celebrated as district, state, and OKMEA teachers of the year and attained distinction for pedagogical excellence.

Music education studies are boosted by ÀÏ˾»ú´«Ã½'s Collegiate National Association for Music Education (CNAfME) chapter. Through CNAfME, ÀÏ˾»ú´«Ã½ Music Education students are able to network with working professionals, meet special guest speakers, and receive annual assistance to attend Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OKMEA) and Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) conferences. Graduates of the program have 100% pass rate on the Oklahoma Teacher Certification Exams and 100% placement rate for those who were actively seeking teaching positions. Those not seeking positions have been accepted into graduate programs. Students have accepted positions throughout the U.S., Europe, and South Korea.

All degrees require a minimum of 124 earned credit hours.
Students must be enrolled in 12 credit hours to be considered a full-time student.
All courses listed on this degree plan are required for the completion of this degree. The course sequence is a suggestion only, and each student will meet with his or her advisor to discuss the most appropriate sequence for that student.
Audition: Music Education applicants must audition on their major instrument. See Undergraduate Instrumental Music Auditions for more information. Interview: Music Education applicants will interview with the Music Education faculty and submit a one-page resume.
