For more than a century, ÀÏ˾»ú´«Ã½ has shaped artists, leaders, and communities through nationally recognized performing arts programs. For generations, these programs have trained artists who perform on stages across the country and around the world while also enriching the cultural fabric of our state and nation.
Originally constructed in 1928 and expanded in 1967, the Kirkpatrick Auditorium has long served as a central stage for the Wanda L. Bass School of Music, the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Entertainment, and the School of Theatre. Today, it stands as both a historic treasure and a vital part of ÀÏ˾»ú´«Ã½â€™s artistic identity.
Preserving the Past, Preparing the Future
To ensure its continued impact for future generations, ÀÏ˾»ú´«Ã½ is launching a comprehensive effort to restore and reimagine this iconic facility. This transformational project will preserve a landmark of Oklahoma City’s cultural heritage while ensuring it continues to serve artists, students, and audiences for generations to come.
We are deeply grateful to the Kirkpatrick Family Fund, the Kirkpatrick Foundation, the Christian Keesee Charitable Trust, and the Kirkpatrick Partners Funds at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation for their visionary philanthropy, which established a $13 million lead gift to advance this historic preservation project.
2026-Early 2027 – Complete fundraising and building design development
Summer 2027 - Begin construction (approximately 16 months to complete renovation)
2028-2029 Academic Year – Reopen as Kirkpatrick Performing Arts Center
A comprehensive renovation will preserve the historic character of the facility while elevating its capabilities for modern performance, education, and community engagement.
Modern Stage Rigging
A new fly system will dramatically increase the flexibility and safety of stage operations while allowing simultaneous productions to rehearse and perform more efficiently.
Acoustic Enhancements
State-of-the-art acoustic technology will transform sound quality for opera, orchestral performances, theatre productions, and guest artists, enhancing the experience for both performers and audiences.
Backstage Modernization
New dressing rooms, rehearsal spaces, and improved backstage circulation will better support students and visiting performers.
Improved Patron Experience
Enhanced accessibility, more comfortable seating, upgraded lobby and gathering spaces, and improved patron amenities will create a more welcoming and enjoyable experience for audiences at every performance.
These upgrades will allow the facility to continue serving as a major cultural venue for Oklahoma City while supporting the next generation of performing artists.
In recognition of the generous lead gift, the facility will be named the Kirkpatrick Performing Arts Center.
Get Involved
Alumni and community partners are asked to help complete the fundraising effort needed to bring this transformational vision to life. Philanthropic support will sustain campaign momentum, keep the project on track for the planned construction timeline, and help fully realize the future of the Kirkpatrick Performing Arts Center.
A campaign committee led by Mr. Christian Keesee, Honorary Chairman; Kristin Chenoweth and Kelli O’Hara, Honorary Alumnae Chairs; and Jane Jayroe and Jerry Gamble and Brenda and Tom McDaniel, Campaign Chairs, will lead the fundraising effort. Select interior and exterior naming opportunities are available and offer meaningful ways to create a lasting legacy within the reimagined facility.
